Adani Defence builds largest private missile facility in MP

Adani Defence & Aerospace on Sunday laid the foundation for South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, with a planned investment of Rs 2,500 crore. The facility will manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems and produce composite propellants, TNT, and explosive-grade materials, marking a significant step toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Strategic Investment and Job Creation

Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, announced that over the next three years, the state-of-the-art facility will be built with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore, creating 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. The project is expected to draw more than 50 MSMEs into a highly specialized supply chain, fostering a local defence industrial ecosystem.

“Shivpuri is the next giant leap in that journey as we bring a full-range, integrated missile ecosystem to manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems, replacing foreign dependency with domestic power,” Adani said at the ceremony. He added, “But we are going deeper than just assembly. We are establishing composite propellant manufacturing as well as TNT and explosive-grade material production.”

Historic First Outside Public Sector

Calling the project a landmark for the company, Adani noted that the facility will bring raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof — a historic first outside the public sector. The company is working closely with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Armed Forces to systematically reverse India's dependency on imports.

“We are promoting indigenisation, working closely with the DRDO and the Armed Forces to systematically reverse India's dependency on imports,” he stated.

Existing Operations in Gwalior

Adani Defence already operates a manufacturing complex in Gwalior, which produces the company's entire portfolio of Light Machine Guns (LMGs), Assault Rifles, and Carbines. The LMG programme alone has delivered 2,000 units to the Armed Forces — 11 months ahead of schedule. “Gwalior gave Madhya Pradesh its first taste of serious defence manufacturing,” Adani said.

He emphasized that together, Gwalior and Shivpuri will serve as twin engines of defence innovation in Madhya Pradesh. “They will ensure that the advanced systems protecting our skies are proudly built by Indian hands, on Indian soil,” he added.

Impact on Defence Self-Reliance

The Shivpuri project aligns with India's broader push for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) in defence. By establishing a full-range integrated missile ecosystem, Adani Defence aims to reduce foreign dependency and strengthen domestic capabilities in critical defence technologies. The facility will also support the government's Make in India initiative, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a key hub for defence manufacturing.
