Gurgaon Wall Collapse Tragedy: Rs 40 Lakh Compensation and Employment for Victims' Families

In a significant development following the tragic wall collapse at the Signature Global project site in Sidhrawali, Gurgaon, the families of the seven deceased labourers are set to receive approximately Rs 40 lakh in compensation each. This compensation package, announced on Monday, includes contributions from both Signature Global (India) Limited and the Haryana government, alongside assurances of employment for one member from each victim's family.

Compensation Breakdown and Government Involvement

The compensation structure details that Signature Global will pay Rs 20 lakh per family, while the Haryana government will cover the remaining Rs 20 lakh. Specifically, the state government's share includes Rs 19 lakh, with an additional Rs 4 lakh contributed by the labour department. Furthermore, each family has been provided Rs 20,000 to cover travel and transport costs for returning to their home state of Jharkhand.

In addition to the financial aid for the deceased, the company has also addressed the injuries sustained in the incident. Out of the five injured labourers, two who are seriously injured will receive Rs 1 lakh each, and three with minor injuries will be given Rs 50,000 each, along with coverage for all treatment expenses.

Employment Assurance and Official Responses

Signature Global has formally committed to offering one employment opportunity to an eligible member of each victim's family, as stated in a letter from group president (operations) Varun Mehta to the family of victim Satish Kumar. The employment will be subject to the nominee's qualifications, eligibility, and suitability, in accordance with the company's established policies.

Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth visited Gurgaon to meet with the affected families and held discussions with key officials, including Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar, Police Commissioner Vikas Arora, and representatives from Signature Global. Seth expressed gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister for prompt action, confirming that all victim families have been promised over Rs 39 lakh in compensation each, along with job offers from the company.
