India-Australia Business Ties Enter 'Execution Phase'

Business leaders from India and Australia have declared that the bilateral economic relationship has entered an "execution phase," moving beyond years of dialogue toward tangible outcomes. Speaking after the Australia-India CEOs Forum in Melbourne on Thursday, industry representatives highlighted emerging opportunities across critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure, defence, and the digital economy.

Relationship Matures into Execution Phase

Deepak Raj Gupta, National Chair of the Australia India Business Council, told ANI that the relationship has matured significantly. "It's a testament that the Australia-India relationship has really matured now. I think rather than being in a discussion phase, we are coming into an execution phase," Gupta said. He noted that the areas addressed by both Prime Ministers at the gathering testify to fields where both countries can excel, predicting that this will now result in business outcomes and continuity for the future.

Multiple Sectors Identified for Collaboration

Shashwat Goenka, Vice Chairman of the Sanjiv Goenka Group, described the discussions as highlighting significant opportunities across several sectors. "Multiple sectors were discussed where both countries can come together and work together to create new benchmarks for the world to see," Goenka said. The sectors range from education and skilling to green energy, renewable energy, critical minerals, digital economy, banking infrastructure, and public infrastructure. He emphasized immense potential not only for sharing learnings but also for collaborating on concrete business opportunities each sector represents.

Focus on Implementation and New Areas

Molina Asthana (GAICD), FICCI Representative Australia, urged both countries to focus on implementing ideas discussed over the years and expand cooperation into newer sectors. "There are so many interesting and new areas for collaboration beyond what we used to speak about—the cricket, Commonwealth, and curry. Critical things like infrastructure, critical minerals, defence, aerospace, and also sport and community connections," she said.

Prime Ministers Address CEOs Forum

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese jointly addressed the Australia-India CEOs Forum and the Economic Roadmap Business event in Melbourne. According to the Prime Minister's Office, Modi highlighted opportunities for greater collaboration in manufacturing, clean energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, fintech, and the digital economy. He also called for an early conclusion of the proposed Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) to further strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.
