The central government has assured that there are sufficient fuel stocks in the country and that supply is adequate across India, despite reports of panic buying in certain regions. In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that there is no need for panic, as the country has enough reserves to meet the demand.
Government Reassures Public
The ministry clarified that the current fuel situation is stable, with adequate availability of petrol, diesel, and other petroleum products. It urged the public not to resort to panic buying, which could create artificial shortages. The government is closely monitoring the situation and has taken necessary steps to ensure smooth supply.
Reasons Behind Panic Buying
Reports of panic buying emerged from some parts of the country, possibly triggered by rumors or local disruptions. However, the Centre has dismissed these concerns, stating that the overall supply chain is robust. The ministry also highlighted that oil marketing companies have sufficient inventory to meet the demand for several weeks.
Measures Taken
To address any localized issues, the government has directed oil companies to increase supplies in areas witnessing higher demand. Additional tankers and retail outlets are being mobilized to prevent any inconvenience. The ministry also advised consumers to purchase fuel as per their regular needs and avoid hoarding.
The assurance comes amid global volatility in oil prices, but the Indian government has maintained that strategic reserves and domestic production provide a buffer. The Centre continues to monitor the situation and will take further action if required.
