Indian Oil Corporation Ramps Up Auto LPG Supply in Bengaluru Amid Severe Crisis
In response to a deepening auto LPG crisis that has severely impacted drivers across Bengaluru, Indian Oil Corporation announced a major intervention on Thursday. The state-owned oil giant has increased its auto LPG supply volumes by nearly 300% to meet the escalating demand in the city.
Substantial Increase in Daily Supply Volumes
The scale of the supply boost is significant. On Wednesday alone, Indian Oil supplied 75.5 metric tonnes of auto LPG within Bengaluru. This represents a dramatic increase from the usual daily supply of approximately 23 metric tonnes that was standard before the crisis began. The company's efforts extend beyond the city limits as well.
Across the entire state of Karnataka, Indian Oil has effectively doubled its auto LPG dispatches. In recent days, the corporation has been supplying over 83 metric tonnes daily to support the state's requirements. This marks a substantial rise from the pre-crisis average of around 43.5 metric tonnes per day that was previously maintained.
Root Causes of the Auto LPG Crisis
The sudden surge in demand for Indian Oil's auto LPG stems from significant disruptions at private auto LPG dispensing stations. These private ALDS stations typically handle nearly 80% of the auto LPG market in Bengaluru and across Karnataka. With their operations compromised, drivers have been forced to seek alternative fueling options, creating unprecedented pressure on Indian Oil's distribution network.
The crisis has particularly affected auto-rickshaw drivers, who rely heavily on auto LPG for their daily operations. Many drivers have reported long queues and operational difficulties due to the shortage, making Indian Oil's supply increase a critical development for the city's transportation ecosystem.
Indian Oil's rapid response demonstrates the corporation's commitment to maintaining fuel availability during emergencies. The company has mobilized additional resources and logistics to ensure that the increased supply volumes reach distribution points efficiently across affected regions.
This intervention comes at a crucial time when reliable transportation fuel access is essential for both commuters and drivers in Bengaluru. The auto LPG crisis had threatened to disrupt daily mobility patterns across the metropolitan area before Indian Oil's substantial supply enhancement.
