A man was arrested with 96 bottles of spurious liquor late on Tuesday, the police here said. The accused, identified as Vijay Kumar (30), was apprehended at a vehicle check point near Pandeypura mosque under Hunterganj police station limits, according to officials.
Details of the Incident
Police intercepted a motorcycle (registration number JH13F-3586) after finding the rider's movement suspicious. During interrogation, the rider identified himself as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Dharmpur village under Pratappur police station limits. He was carrying a sack, which upon search revealed four cartons containing 96 bottles of spurious liquor, each of 375 ml.
Hunterganj officer in-charge Prabhat Kumar stated in a press conference on Wednesday that the accused was arrested at the scene. The police are currently investigating the origin and destination of the consignment. Sources suggest the liquor might have been destined for Bihar.
Legal Action
A case has been registered at Hunterganj police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Excise Act, Kumar added. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the illegal operation.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to curb the production and distribution of spurious liquor in the region. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal alcohol trade.
