Mangalagiri Gets Rs 142 Crore ROB, Drainage, Park

Vijayawada: Mangalagiri constituency is set for a transformative phase with a series of infrastructure projects launched by the government. IT minister Nara Lokesh, along with Union minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, laid the foundation stone for the long-pending Nidamarru Railway Over Bridge (ROB) on Wednesday. The Rs 142-crore project is expected to enhance connectivity between Mangalagiri, Amaravati, Tadikonda and nearby villages.

Key Infrastructure Projects

The ROB will replace Level Crossing Gate No.14 on the Namburu–Mangalagiri section, a major bottleneck for decades. With nearly 60 trains passing daily, the gate remains closed for 8–10 hours, forcing commuters to wait 10–15 minutes at a time. The ROB is expected to cut the crossing time to about one minute.

The bridge will be built at a height of 10 metres, spanning 767.5 metres, with a four-lane carriageway of 15 metres and service roads on both sides. The total width, including service roads, will be around 28 metres.

Park Inauguration

Later, the ministers inaugurated the Kaja east lake park at Kaja village, developed at a cost of Rs 3.3 crore through CSR funds by Cellkon. Spread over 17.18 acres, the park features a 1.7-km walking track, open gym, children’s play area and landscaped greenery. The lake bund has been strengthened over 1.7 km, and 12,800 saplings of 42 varieties have been planted.

Underground Drainage Project

Lokesh also laid the foundation stone for phase-1 of the Mangalagiri underground drainage project at Tadepalli. The Rs 1,167.50-crore project aims to provide a lasting solution to sewage issues in the Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation limits. It includes a 531-km underground network, 20 sewage treatment plants and 18 lift stations, to be executed in two phases under the Hybrid Annuity Mode.

Lokesh said the projects fulfil his promise to develop Mangalagiri into a model constituency. Public representatives, officials and residents attended the programmes.
