Meta Withdraws Instagram Account Reference Feature for AI Image Generation After User Feedback
Meta Pulls Instagram Reference Feature for AI Images

Meta has removed a feature announced earlier this week that allowed users to generate AI images by referencing public Instagram accounts through @-mentions in Meta AI. The company acknowledged that the feature "missed the mark" following user feedback and confirmed it is no longer available.

Feature Removal Details

In an update on Friday, Meta stated: "We intended to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way. We've heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it's no longer available." The feature was part of the rollout of Muse Image, Meta's first image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Muse Image Capabilities

Muse Image uses advanced reasoning to understand complex prompts and can combine multiple photos into a single image. It supports preset prompts to help users generate ideas and allows image edits through sketches and annotations directly within conversations. Meta had said Muse Image powers creative experiences on Instagram and WhatsApp, with plans to expand to Facebook, Messenger, and for advertisers through Meta Advantage+ creative.

Impact on Rollout

This is Meta's first change to the Muse Image rollout. The broader rollout continues, but the Instagram account reference feature has been withdrawn. The company has not provided further details on future adjustments. The decision reflects Meta's responsiveness to user feedback regarding AI image generation tools.
