After more than 20 years of delays, work has finally begun on a crucial stretch of Dr Rajkumar Road in Mysuru. The project, which aims to widen and upgrade the road, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
Long-Awaited Project
The road stretch, spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers, has been in a dilapidated state for decades, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents. The delay was attributed to various factors, including land acquisition issues and administrative hurdles.
Key Features of the Project
- Widening of the road to four lanes with proper drainage facilities.
- Construction of footpaths and cycle tracks to promote non-motorized transport.
- Installation of streetlights and traffic signals for enhanced safety.
The project is being executed by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. It is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Impact on Commuters
Once completed, the upgraded road will provide a smoother and safer travel experience for thousands of daily commuters. It will also reduce travel time and fuel consumption, contributing to lower vehicular emissions.
Local residents have expressed relief and optimism about the development. Many hope that the project will spur further infrastructural improvements in the area.
The commencement of work marks a significant milestone for Mysuru's urban development, reflecting the authorities' commitment to addressing long-pending infrastructure needs.
