Nagpur woke up to a mounting fuel crisis on Tuesday morning as rumors of petrol shortage, circulating since Monday night, triggered widespread panic buying across the city. This led to extensive queues, numerous dry pumps, and significant disruption to daily life and traffic flow throughout Nagpur.

At least 24 petrol pumps across Nagpur and its outskirts were forced to shut operations after running completely dry. The fuel crunch, driven by rapidly depleting stocks and heightened fears linked to the escalating West Asia conflict between Israel and Iran, left motorists scrambling desperately for fuel.
As the day progressed, many additional fuel stations were compelled to down their shutters. Notable outlets affected included those in the Wadi area, Rameshwari, near the CID office, and in Godhani, all ceasing operations after exhausting their supplies.
Administrative Sources Cite Supply Chain Issues
Sources within the district administration revealed that fuel tankers had failed to arrive in the city over the preceding weekend. "Fresh supplies are expected to normalise in the coming days," stated these sources, offering a glimmer of hope. The situation was further aggravated by a recent decision from oil companies to halt credit supplies to petrol pump dealers, tightening the availability of fuel.
Chaos at Operational Pumps and Major Traffic Snarls

In numerous cases, motorists who had waited for hours were left with no option but to either opt for the costlier premium fuel or return home completely empty-handed. Pump staff were left firefighting the chaos, scrambling to impose some semblance of order. Temporary queues were set up to separate two-wheelers and four-wheelers, but with patience wearing dangerously thin, tempers frequently flared. Repeated attempts to jump the line triggered heated arguments and occasional physical scuffles.

Mahesh Barapatre, waiting near Gandhi Sagar Lake, described the ordeal as utterly exhausting. "The constant honking and the endless waiting—it has been nearly an hour. Whether this is panic buying or an actual shortage, the stark reality is we are not getting petrol, which feels as essential as roti, kapda aur makan," he expressed, highlighting the fundamental nature of the crisis.

By evening, while some pumps reported partial replenishment, long queues stubbornly persisted, and a palpable sense of uncertainty continued to loom large over the city.
