NHPC Invests Rs 56 Crore in Chamba CSR Projects

NHPC Limited has invested Rs 56.62 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in Chamba district between the fiscal years 2020-21 and 2025-26, according to Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan. Mahajan, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy, highlighted that these initiatives have brought significant improvements to education, healthcare, sanitation, and social welfare infrastructure, especially in remote and underserved areas of the district.

Breakdown of CSR Expenditure by Project

The largest share of CSR spending, amounting to Rs 29.69 crore, was allocated under the Chamera-II project. The Chamera-I project contributed Rs 13.85 crore, while the Baira Siul project accounted for Rs 9.72 crore. These funds have been utilized for various developmental activities across Chamba.

Education Infrastructure Boost

A major focus of NHPC's CSR efforts has been education. The company undertook the construction of 45 school buildings, comprising 25 primary and 20 secondary schools, at an approved cost of Rs 7.75 crore. Out of this, Rs 6.57 crore has been released, and nearly Rs 6.55 crore has already been spent. Most of the school buildings are completed, with finishing work ongoing at a few locations.

Safe Drinking Water Initiatives

To improve access to safe drinking water, NHPC installed 350 water purifiers in schools and Anganwadi centers across Chamba district at a cost of Rs 36.68 lakh. This initiative aims to ensure that children and community members have access to clean water.

Healthcare Enhancements

In the healthcare sector, NHPC strengthened diagnostic services by installing biochemistry analyzers in five laboratories across the district. The project, completed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, has enhanced diagnostic capabilities and improved healthcare delivery for local residents.

Support for Children with Special Needs

On June 23, NHPC launched a mobile therapy van service equipped with speech and physiotherapy specialists. This service is expected to benefit around 150 children with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities by bringing therapy services closer to their homes.

Additionally, NHPC provided financial assistance for the upgrade of the Paradise Day-Care Centre at Chowari to improve facilities for children. The company also contributed to strengthening sanitation infrastructure in Chamba town.

MP Harsh Mahajan stated that these CSR initiatives have brought tangible improvements to the lives of people, particularly in remote and underserved areas of the district.
