SAIL's Manish Raj Gupta Assumes CMD Charge at RINL

In a significant leadership development for India's steel sector, Manish Raj Gupta has taken on the additional responsibility of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity overseeing the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). The appointment became effective on Thursday, marking a new chapter for the prominent public sector undertaking.

A Distinguished Career Spanning Over Three Decades

Gupta's journey in the steel industry is one of steady ascent and notable achievement. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from MANIT Bhopal who also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, he began his professional journey with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in 1991. He joined as a Management Trainee (Technical) at the Durgapur Steel Plant, laying the foundation for a career distinguished by technical acumen and leadership.

For nearly three decades at Durgapur, Gupta honed his skills, making substantial contributions to plant operations, project management, and enhancing equipment reliability. A key area of his focus was improving the efficiency of the Steel Melting Shop, alongside a steadfast commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Leadership Roles and Strategic Impact

His proven track record led to pivotal leadership roles across SAIL's major units. In 2019, he moved to the Bokaro Steel Plant as Chief General Manager, heading the Steel Melting Shops. Under his guidance, the shops witnessed major technological upgrades and process streamlining. The successful execution of modernization projects under his watch significantly boosted overall steelmaking efficiency.

Gupta later served as Executive Director (Works) at the IISCO Steel Plant. Here, he championed initiatives in sustainability, cost optimization, and digitalization. His efforts were instrumental in adopting advanced technologies, which improved operational performance and aligned the plant's trajectory with SAIL's broader strategic goals.

Prior to his current role as Director (Technical, Projects & Raw Materials) at SAIL, he gained crucial corporate experience as Executive Director In-charge (Operations) at SAIL's Corporate Office in New Delhi.
