TCS Issues Detailed Clarification on Nashik Unit Controversy Amid Allegations
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has released a comprehensive statement addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding its Nashik facility, specifically clarifying the role of an individual repeatedly referenced in media reports. The company stated unequivocally that this person, often described as an HR manager, holds no such position and was not involved in recruitment activities.
Clarification on Employee Role and Facility Status
"She served as a process associate and held no leadership responsibilities," TCS emphasized in its official communication. This clarification comes as the IT giant faces allegations of sexual misconduct and religious conversion at its Nashik unit. Furthermore, TCS firmly rejected circulating reports suggesting the unit had been shut down, labeling such claims as "entirely untrue."
Reaffirmation of Corporate Standards and Policies
The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of employee welfare and institutional conduct. "TCS holds itself to the highest standards of employee welfare and institutional conduct. We remain fully committed to the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every employee," the statement read. It highlighted the organization's zero-tolerance policy towards any form of coercion or misconduct, promising continued support for employees and ensuring safe workplaces across all locations.
TCS also pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure the matter is investigated "thoroughly, transparently, and brought to a rightful conclusion."
Leadership Response and Internal Review Findings
Earlier this week, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed deep concern over the allegations, describing them as "gravely concerning and anguishing." He confirmed that the company is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness, with action already initiated against accused employees and full cooperation extended to ongoing investigations.
In its latest statement, TCS revealed that a preliminary review of systems and records at the Nashik unit indicated no complaints had been received through internal mechanisms regarding the alleged incidents. "A preliminary review of the systems and records pertaining to the Nashik unit indicates that we have not received any complaints of the nature that are being alleged on either our ethics or POSH (prevention of sexual harassment) channels," the company stated.
Establishment of Oversight Panel and External Engagement
To ensure transparency and thoroughness in the inquiry process, TCS announced the formation of an oversight panel. The company has engaged external agencies to support its internal investigation, appointing consultancy firm Deloitte and law firm Trilegal as independent counsel for the probe. This move underscores TCS's commitment to an impartial and comprehensive examination of the allegations.
The company's statement concludes with a reaffirmation of its dedication to ethical practices and employee protection, emphasizing that all necessary steps are being taken to address the situation responsibly and effectively.
