Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested the assistant engineer of the rural water supply and sanitation (RWSS) department at Kolnara block in Rayagada district for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of 101% of his known sources of income. The accused, identified as Malaya Kumar Nayak (59), a resident of Berhampur, was found to own assets far exceeding his legitimate earnings.
Details of the Arrest
The vigilance department conducted raids on Thursday at seven locations linked to Nayak. These included his residential triple-storied building at Soundarya Nagar, Lochapada, his native village in Jagannath Prasad, two houses of relatives in Buguda, a house in Kamalapur near Golanthara in Ganjam district, and his office chamber in Rayagada district.
Assets Seized
During the searches, sleuths discovered two multi-storied buildings and four high-valued plots, among other assets. The total value of the disproportionate assets is estimated at 101% of his known sources of income, indicating a clear case of corruption.
The arrest comes as part of the vigilance department's ongoing efforts to crack down on corrupt officials in the state. Further investigation is underway to trace any additional assets or hidden wealth.
