Hyderabad: After two days of heavy rush triggered by panic buying, queues at fuel outlets across Hyderabad eased on Wednesday, with the situation gradually returning to normal. While several outlets displayed 'no stock' boards earlier in the day, supplies began arriving by late afternoon as tankers reached stations and refilling resumed.
'We managed to get supplies from the backend as tanker movement was initially low. Now deliveries have picked up, and the situation is slowly improving,' said Mohd Muzzamil, a petrol pump manager in Sanathnagar. Despite the improvement, petrol pump operators cautioned that stocks could still run out earlier than usual due to sustained high demand.
Meanwhile, reassuring citizens, the civil supplies department reiterated that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel. In its fuel supply status report on April 29, authorities said supplies have been significantly ramped up to stabilise the situation. Petrol supply rose to 13,622 kilolitres on April 28, compared to an average daily supply of 5,883 KL — an increase of 132%. Diesel supply climbed to 22,782 KL against the average 7,348 KL, marking a 210% rise. Officials attributed the sudden surge to panic buying, rumours and supply disruptions in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Officials said dry-outs at retail outlets in Andhra Pradesh had a spillover effect on border districts such as Khammam and Miryalaguda, while similar pressure was observed in Nirmal, which borders Maharashtra. However, they stressed that adequate stocks are being maintained and the situation is under control. In total, 36,404 KL of fuel was supplied across Telangana in a single day, with 3,817 tankers dispatched to ensure smooth distribution. Meanwhile, the government urged people not to panic or hoard fuel, emphasising that supply chains remain robust and are being closely monitored in coordination with oil companies.
