Expressway Inaugurated on July 13
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway was officially inaugurated on July 13, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure development. The expressway dramatically reduces travel time between the two cities from approximately 3 hours to just 35 minutes, according to state officials.
Key Features and Benefits
The 63-kilometer-long, six-lane expressway is designed to handle high traffic volumes and includes modern safety features such as CCTV surveillance, emergency call boxes, and service roads. It is expected to decongest the existing National Highway 25 and provide a faster, smoother commute for thousands of daily travelers.
"This expressway will not only save time but also boost economic activities in the region," said a senior official from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).
Economic Impact
The project is anticipated to spur industrial growth along the corridor, with new logistics hubs and business parks planned near key interchanges. The reduced travel time is expected to lower transportation costs for goods and improve supply chain efficiency.
Construction and Investment
Built at a cost of approximately ₹3,500 crore, the expressway was completed in under 30 months despite challenges posed by the pandemic. The project is part of the state government's broader plan to expand expressway networks across Uttar Pradesh.
Safety Measures
To ensure safety, the expressway features crash barriers, speed enforcement cameras, and dedicated patrol vehicles. Emergency response teams will be stationed at regular intervals to handle incidents promptly.
"We have implemented world-class safety standards to minimize accidents," added the official.
Environmental Considerations
Over 50,000 trees have been planted along the expressway as part of a green initiative. Solar-powered lighting and rainwater harvesting systems have also been installed to reduce the environmental footprint.
Public Reaction
Commuters expressed relief and excitement. "I used to spend over 3 hours driving to Kanpur for work. Now it's just 35 minutes. This is a game-changer," said a local businessman.
The expressway is expected to handle over 50,000 vehicles per day, significantly easing traffic on older routes.
