Lucknow: Infrastructure projects including new terminals, expansion, and land acquisition are progressing rapidly at multiple airports across Uttar Pradesh, as per the state's Civil Aviation Department.
Gorakhpur Airport
Plans for a new civil terminal at Gorakhpur Airport are advancing after the transfer of 42.14 acres of Indian Air Force land, following an agreement signed in June 2025 among the Uttar Pradesh government, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Ministry of Defence. Officials confirmed that asset relocation work is largely complete. The airport currently handles an average of 12 flights daily.
Agra Airport
Construction of a new civil terminal in Agra is underway, with 144.5 acres of land made available, including 92.5 acres acquired subsequently. Officials report that construction is approximately 60% complete.
Kanpur Airport
Kanpur Airport's new civil terminal, built on 50 acres provided by the state government, is now operational. Developed by the AAI at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore, a proposal to acquire around 100 additional acres for future expansion is under consideration.
Aligarh Airport
Expansion plans at Aligarh Airport are in progress after development work concluded in 2024. The state government has approved Rs 738.6 crore for acquiring 275.74 hectares of land. Most of the land has been acquired, with the remaining process underway.
Moradabad and Shravasti Airports
The Moradabad airstrip, upgraded to an airport in 2024, is undergoing technical processes for future expansion, including land verification and planning. At Shravasti Airport, developed under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, 218 hectares of land has been acquired against a requirement of 226.75 hectares. The project has received approval for Rs 350 crore.
