Mandatory Additional Documents from April 2026

The new requirements mandate that applicants submit one or more of the following documents in addition to Aadhaar:

Name Alignment with Aadhaar Becomes Crucial

As highlighted in an official X post by CSC e-Governance Services, the name displayed on the PAN card will strictly match the name registered in the Aadhaar database. Any discrepancies will result in the removal of non-matching names from the PAN card. Consequently, applicants are strongly advised to ensure their Aadhaar details are accurate and up-to-date to avoid processing delays or rejections.

Introduction of New Application Forms

Another critical change involves the phasing out of old PAN card application forms. Starting April 1, 2026, only applications submitted using the newly introduced forms will be accepted. Applications made with outdated forms will be deemed invalid, emphasizing the need for applicants to use the latest versions available through official channels.

Revised PAN Quoting Thresholds in Draft Income Tax Rules 2026

The Income Tax Department has released draft rules under the New Income Tax Act, proposing several adjustments to PAN quoting obligations for financial transactions. Key modifications include:

  1. Immovable Property Transactions: The threshold for mandatory PAN quoting in property purchases or sales has been raised from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
  2. Vehicle Purchases: PAN is now required only for vehicle transactions exceeding Rs 5 lakh.
  3. Hotel Payments: The threshold for PAN quoting in hotel bill payments has been increased to Rs 1 lakh.

These revisions aim to streamline compliance while adapting to current economic conditions.
