Adani and Embraer Strengthen Commitment to Establish Regional Jet Assembly Line in India

In a significant development for India's aviation sector, the Adani Group and Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer have reinforced their commitment to establishing a final assembly line (FAL) for regional jets within India. The enhanced memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formally exchanged on Saturday between Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer, marking a crucial advancement from their initial agreement signed just last month.

High-Level Exchange in Presence of Dignitaries

The MoU signing ceremony was conducted in the distinguished presence of Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The document was exchanged by Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, and Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, symbolizing a strengthened bilateral partnership.

Focus on E175 Regional Jet Production

The collaboration specifically targets the establishment of a final assembly line for the E175 regional jet, an aircraft model designed for short to medium-haul flights with a seating capacity of 76 to 88 passengers. Currently, India's aviation landscape includes eight E175 aircraft operating with Star Air and one within the Reliance Industries fleet, highlighting existing market familiarity with the model.

Embraer released an official statement emphasizing the strategic importance of this enhanced agreement: "This advancement from the initial MoU signed in January 2026 represents a significant step forward and forms part of a broader roadmap to develop an integrated regional transport aircraft (RTA) ecosystem in India for the E175. Both companies are already working together to progress all aspects of the MoU, including opportunities in aircraft manufacturing, supply chain, aftermarket services, and pilot training, and securing orders to support the proposed FAL."

Strategic Importance for Regional Aviation Development

Jeet Adani highlighted the critical role of regional aviation in economic expansion, stating: "Regional aviation is the backbone of economic expansion. With initiatives like UDAN transforming air connectivity across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, the need for an indigenous regional aviation ecosystem has become critical. This partnership will also strengthen strategic relations between India and Brazil, bringing complementary capabilities together."

Francisco Gomes Neto echoed this sentiment, noting: "The E175 has a global track record of enabling efficient, high-frequency regional operations and India is a key growth market in that segment. This signing represents a critical milestone for our partnership, as we continue to work together on all aspects of the proposed aerospace ecosystem, including securing orders for a FAL in India."

Market Context and Future Projections

India stands as one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets in terms of passenger traffic, creating substantial demand for regional aircraft. Industry projections indicate that India will require at least 500 aircraft in the 80-to-146 seat segment over the next two decades. This demand is driven by the need for efficient regional and short-haul connectivity, which smaller, efficient jets like the E175 are ideally positioned to fulfill.

Embraer has established a considerable presence in India over the years, with nearly 50 Embraer aircraft of 11 different types currently operating across commercial, defence, and business aviation sectors. This existing footprint provides a solid foundation for the expanded collaboration with the Adani Group, promising to accelerate the development of a comprehensive regional aviation ecosystem in India.
