Andhra Pradesh Government Fast-Tracks Major Industrial Smart City Project

The Chandrababu Naidu-led government in Andhra Pradesh is injecting fresh momentum into the state's industrial development landscape, particularly following the foundation-laying for the ArcelorMittal steel plant. A key focus of this accelerated push is the ambitious Krishnapatnam Industrial Smart City, commonly referred to as Kris City.

Strategic Positioning and Accelerated Timeline

Positioned as a flagship industrial hub under the Krishnapatnam Industrial Node on the strategic Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, the project is being fast-tracked with clear milestones set for achievement by 2028. Envisaged as one of three smart industrial cities in Andhra Pradesh, Kris City is now steadily transitioning from the planning phase into active execution.

The massive project spans nearly 10,500 acres and is being developed in carefully planned phases. The initial phase alone covers approximately 2,100 acres, where substantial progress has already been recorded.

Substantial Financial Commitment and Infrastructure Progress

Out of the proposed ₹1,200 crore earmarked for this first phase, authorities have already expended around ₹350 crore on critical infrastructure works. These foundational developments include the construction of robust road networks, comprehensive underground drainage systems, reliable power supply grids, modern sewage treatment plants, and advanced digital communication infrastructure.

Officials emphasize that the current strategic focus remains squarely on completing this trunk infrastructure. This approach is designed to enable the simultaneous rollout of both industrial components and urban development modules, creating a synchronized growth pattern.

Vision for a Self-Sustained Smart Ecosystem

The master plan for Kris City represents an innovative integration of industrial development with high-quality urban living, aiming to establish a truly self-sustained smart ecosystem. A senior official elaborated on the comprehensive social infrastructure blueprint, stating that the proposed smart city will feature 16 distinct residential zones alongside dedicated spaces for private offices and business centers.

In addition to these core elements, the city will house a modern sports and cultural center, a private hospital, a fully-equipped fire station, educational institutions including schools, and a retail shopping mall. This holistic approach ensures that both residents and the workforce will have access to comprehensive social amenities.

Emphasis on Quality Urban Design and Connectivity

A key highlight of the Kris City project is its strong emphasis on international-standard quality urban design. The plans include developing walking and cycling tracks that meet global benchmarks, alongside the creation of ample green spaces, implementation of efficient waste management systems, and ensuring robust digital connectivity throughout the development.

The Krishnapatnam Industrial Node benefits from exceptional connectivity, linking efficiently to major urban centers including Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Amaravati, and Anantapur through national highways. Its strategic location connects major stretches of both the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor.

Furthermore, its proximity to the rapidly expanding Krishnapatnam port significantly strengthens its appeal for export-oriented industries, providing a crucial logistical advantage.

Confident Projections for 2028 Completion

With infrastructure works now gaining substantial momentum and clear timelines firmly established, officials express strong confidence that Kris City will emerge as a major industrial and urban hub by the target year of 2028. This development is projected to deliver multiple benefits including boosting regional investments, generating significant employment opportunities, and reinforcing Andhra Pradesh's strategic position within the national industrial corridor network.
