In a significant push for industrial sustainability, Andhra Pradesh has positioned itself as a frontrunner in implementing the Union government's ambitious ADEETIE energy-efficiency scheme, backed by a substantial budget of Rs 1,000 crore. The initiative is squarely aimed at accelerating the adoption of advanced, energy-saving technologies within the state's vital Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.
Financial Framework and District Focus
The financial architecture of the scheme is strategically designed to maximize impact. Out of the total Rs 1,000 crore outlay, a dominant Rs 875 crore has been reserved as interest subvention. This key component is intended to provide concessional financing, making it financially viable for MSMEs to undertake crucial energy-efficient upgrades to their operations.
Furthermore, Rs 50 crore is specifically allocated for implementation support and capacity-building activities, ensuring the scheme's effective rollout on the ground. Geographically, the state has identified key districts for piloting the program. While West Godavari district has been selected for the scheme's overall implementation, both East and West Godavari districts have been chosen for focused participation in the glass-refractory industrial sector.
Government Endorsement and Strategic Partnerships
The state government's proactive stance was formally communicated by Industries and Commerce Secretary N Yuvaraj, who recently announced Andhra Pradesh's support for the ADEETIE scheme on behalf of the state administration. The commitment was further underscored during the CII Partnership Summit held in Visakhapatnam.
In a remarkable display of decisive action, the Andhra Pradesh government signed three major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in a single day with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). These agreements focus on large-scale adoption of energy efficiency technologies across MSMEs, widespread implementation of urban LED street lighting, and initiatives for tourism promotion.
Broader Economic Dialogue and Recognition
The summit also served as a platform for broader economic discourse. KR Jyothi Lal, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) for Kerala, participated in a finance department-sponsored global program during the event. His presentation on economic growth models for infrastructure development in Kerala reportedly received high appreciation from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, highlighting the collaborative spirit in addressing regional development challenges.
This concerted move by Andhra Pradesh, combining substantial central funding with state-level execution focus and strategic public-sector partnerships, marks a critical step towards enhancing the competitiveness and environmental sustainability of its MSME ecosystem.
