Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of being responsible for the downgrade of his security cover. In a brief response to queries from the media, Yadav stated, "Yes, the security cover has been downgraded. It is all being done at the behest of Nitish Kumar."
The former Chief Minister of Bihar, who currently serves as the RJD chief, made these remarks on June 17, 2026. The downgrade of security cover has sparked a political controversy in the state, with the RJD alleging that the move is politically motivated.
Yadav's security cover was reportedly reduced from the highest category to a lower level, which has raised concerns among his party members and supporters. The RJD has demanded a review of the decision, claiming that it compromises the safety of their leader.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) party has dismissed the allegations, stating that security downgrades are based on threat assessments and not political considerations.
This development comes amidst ongoing political tensions in Bihar, where the RJD and JD(U) are key rivals. The security cover issue is expected to further escalate the war of words between the two parties.
