AP Govt Clears 629 AEE Posts in Power Utilities

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step to strengthen the state's power sector by approving 629 posts for assistant executive engineers (AEEs) across key electricity organisations. This move aims to address long-standing staff shortages and improve operational efficiency in power generation, transmission, and distribution.

Distribution of Posts

The recruitment drive will cover AP Transco, AP Genco, and the three distribution companies: APSPDCL, APCPDCL, and APEPDCL. Of the total posts, 200 are allocated to Transco, 100 to Genco, 134 to APSPDCL, 60 to APCPDCL, and 135 to APEPDCL. All positions will be filled through direct recruitment.

Addressing Staff Shortages

The energy department has been pressing to fill vacancies amid rising power demand. Staff shortages have been affecting generation, transmission, and distribution operations. Several substations and field divisions are operating with limited engineering staff, increasing workload and impacting maintenance and consumer services.

Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar stated that the government is committed to strengthening the sector with adequate manpower and infrastructure. He emphasised that the recruitment will enhance field-level technical capacity and improve service delivery.

Transparent Hiring Process

The government has stressed transparent, merit-based hiring while creating opportunities for qualified youth. Employee unions have long demanded recruitment, citing mounting pressure on existing staff. The minister added, "The recruitment of AEEs will enhance technical capabilities in field operations and improve service delivery to consumers across the state."

Broader Employment Push

The proposal has been cleared by the Chief Minister as part of a broader employment push. A detailed notification on eligibility, reservations, and exam schedule will be issued soon, with the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) set to conduct the recruitment. Engineering graduates from electrical, civil, and allied streams are expected to be eligible.
