Brigade Hotel Ventures Announces Major Expansion into North and West India

Chennai-based Brigade Hotel Ventures (BHVL), a key player in the hospitality sector with a strong presence in South India, is set to broaden its horizons by venturing into the northern and western regions of the country. The company, which operates business-category properties, is now targeting the spiritual and leisure segments to tap into growing tourism markets.

Strategic Destinations and Development Plans

According to BHVL director Vineet Verma, the expansion will focus on high-potential destinations. In the western region, Goa and Mumbai are prime targets, while in north India, the company is eyeing Varanasi, Rishikesh, and, in the long term, Ayodhya. These new properties are planned to be either four-star or five-star category facilities, tailored to the specific needs of each location.

Verma emphasized that BHVL is not limiting itself to greenfield projects. The company is actively exploring brownfield opportunities through acquisitions, which allow for quicker market entry. "Acquiring operating hotels enables us to renovate and commence operations within six months to a year, compared to the three to four years required for building from scratch," he explained. This dual approach aims to accelerate growth and capitalize on existing infrastructure.

Current Portfolio and Future Investments

Currently, BHVL manages a portfolio of nine operating hotels across key cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Mysuru, and GIFT City in Gujarat, offering more than 1,600 keys. The company has an ambitious pipeline of nine new properties in the south, including locations like ECR and OMR in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram. These projects are expected to add another 1,700 keys over the next three to four years.

To support this expansion, BHVL is investing over Rs 3,000 crore. Verma highlighted the rapid pace of growth, stating, "While we developed over 1,600 keys in the past 16 years, we will double that number in just four years." This significant investment underscores the company's commitment to scaling its operations and enhancing its market presence across India.
