A carbon dioxide gas tank exploded at a private gas filling unit near Hosur in Krishnagiri district on Saturday morning, resulting in extensive damage to the facility. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to the Bagalur police, the damages caused to the unit in the incident are estimated at Rs 25 lakh.
Details of the Incident
The explosion occurred at Sri Hari Gas, a CO2 filling unit operated by V Raghu of Agraharam, near Hosur. The unit is engaged in supplying CO2 cylinders to welding shops and private firms. The Bagalur police reported that a tank containing 9,000 kg of CO2 exploded when a worker, identified as K Jeeva, 32, arrived to open the unit in the morning.
Impact of the Explosion
A portion of the tank landed in a nearby agricultural field, located approximately 100 metres from the unit. The building housing the unit and its equipment sustained significant damage. Nearby electricity poles were also damaged in the blast. Jeeva, however, escaped unhurt.
Police Investigation
Upon receiving the alert, the Bagalur police visited the spot and initiated a probe into the incident. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
