A devastating fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at Chakarpur Sabzi Mandi in Sachendi, Kanpur, gutting 44 shops. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Fire Spread Rapidly
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started suddenly at a fruit commission shop on chabutra number-6 and spread within minutes. Flames rose to approximately 40 to 50 feet and were visible from a distance, creating panic among traders and locals.
Firefighting Efforts
Inspector Deenanath Mishra stated that 12 fire tenders were deployed to the site, and the blaze was brought under control in about three hours. The quick response prevented further damage to adjacent areas.
Cause Under Investigation
Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit as the likely cause of the fire. However, officials confirmed that the exact cause will be determined only after a detailed inquiry.
Financial Losses
A commission agent reported that the fire has caused losses exceeding Rs 2 crore. Traders expressed frustration over the lack of fire-fighting equipment in the market, which could have mitigated the disaster.
Government Assistance
Mandi secretary Vijin Baliyan assured that traders who suffered losses will receive financial assistance from the government. Authorities are assessing the damage to expedite relief measures.
