WAYANAD: The Kerala Police have registered a case after posters targeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge appeared on the walls of the Congress office and nearby areas in Wayanad, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Officials at the Kalpetta police station stated that the case was filed based on a complaint lodged by MLA T Siddique. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the posters were discovered on the compound wall of the Wayanad District Congress Committee (DCC) office and surrounding locations on May 13. This incident occurred amid ongoing uncertainty regarding the selection of the next Chief Minister of Kerala.
The officials further revealed that the posters contained threatening messages, including claims that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the sitting Member of Parliament from Wayanad, would be defeated in the upcoming elections. The posters warned that "Wayanad will become the next Amethi", a reference to the constituency formerly held by Rahul Gandhi, which he lost in the 2019 general elections.
Police said that Congress workers promptly removed the posters shortly after the incident came to light. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Kerala Police Act. Authorities have also obtained CCTV footage showing an individual pasting the posters on the walls, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspect, officials added.
The development has sparked political tensions in the region, with Congress leaders condemning the act and calling for a thorough investigation. The police are continuing their probe into the matter.
