A tragic industrial accident has struck the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, where a massive explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit resulted in the deaths of nearly 13 workers. The blast was reported at around 3 pm at a fireworks facility located near Kattanarpatti in Virudhunagar. According to senior police officials, the unit, identified as "Vanaja Fireworks," is a licensed operation. Rescue efforts are currently underway, with personnel working diligently to secure the area and assist any remaining individuals. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his deep condolences in a post on social media platform X. He stated, "I have requested the Ministers K K S S R Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to rush to the scene immediately to expedite and monitor the rescue operations and to offer solace to the affected families. Upon learning of this, I contacted the District Collector and instructed them to coordinate all necessary assistance."
The Vachakarapatti police are actively conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the blast and assess any potential safety violations.
