The Davangere City Corporation has intensified its efforts to control the stray dog population through a focused sterilization campaign. A dedicated team comprising six to seven catchers, supported by two veterinary officers, is reportedly capturing around 15 dogs per day. The captured canines are then sterilized in a specialized shed set up at Pamenahalli on the outskirts of Davangere City.
Sterilization Drive Details
The operation is part of the Capture-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (CNVR) initiative, which aims to humanely manage the street dog population. The team works diligently to ensure that the dogs are safely captured, sterilized, and then returned to their original locations. This approach not only prevents the growth of the population but also reduces the risk of rabies and other diseases.
Community Impact
Local residents have expressed support for the drive, noting a decrease in aggressive dog behavior and fewer incidents of dog bites. The corporation plans to expand the operation to cover more areas in the coming months. Officials emphasize the importance of community cooperation in reporting stray dog sightings and ensuring the success of the program.
The sterilization shed at Pamenahalli is equipped with necessary facilities to handle the surgical procedures and post-operative care for the dogs. Veterinary officers oversee the entire process, ensuring that the animals are treated humanely and recover well before release.
