The government will review suggestions from the electric vehicle (EV) industry regarding financing and certification, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy stated on Monday. The minister made the remarks after chairing a comprehensive stakeholder consultation meeting in Bengaluru with representatives from various segments of the EV industry.
Stakeholder Consultation on EV Sector
The meeting, held in Bengaluru, brought together key players from the EV ecosystem, including manufacturers, financiers, and certification bodies. Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of addressing industry concerns to accelerate EV adoption in India.
Financing Challenges
Industry representatives highlighted the need for easier access to financing for EV purchases and manufacturing. Suggestions included lower interest rates, longer repayment tenures, and government-backed credit guarantees.
Certification Process
Stakeholders also discussed streamlining the certification process for EV components and vehicles. Proposals included faster approvals, harmonization with global standards, and reduced compliance burdens.
Kumaraswamy assured that the government would carefully examine all suggestions and take appropriate action to support the EV sector's growth. He reiterated the government's commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and achieving climate goals.
