Gujarat to Install Seven More STATCOMs After Successful Gir-Somnath Project
Gujarat to Add Seven More STATCOMs for Grid Stability

The Gujarat government announced on Friday that after successfully commissioning a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) in Gir-Somnath, similar devices will be installed at seven more locations across the state. STATCOM technology improves voltage stability, reduces stress on transmission infrastructure, lowers transmission losses, and enhances power quality.

GETCO Leads in STATCOM Adoption

An official statement highlighted that Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) became India’s first state-run transmission utility to deploy STATCOM technology. The initial STATCOM was commissioned in March 2019 at the 220kV Timbdi substation in Gir-Somnath district.

Details of the New Installations

The government stated that six of the proposed seven STATCOMs will be set up at existing 220kV substations, while one will be deployed at the upcoming 400kV Dholera-2 substation. This expansion aims to strengthen the state's power grid and ensure reliable electricity supply.
