Honda Cars India has achieved a significant milestone in automotive safety as the new third-generation Honda Amaze secured top honors in the recently conducted Bharat NCAP crash tests. The popular sub-4 metre sedan demonstrated exceptional safety performance, earning a perfect 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and a strong 4-star rating for child safety.
Comprehensive Safety Assessment Details
The Bharat NCAP evaluation was conducted on multiple variants of the Honda Amaze, including the V CVT, VX CVT and ZX MT models. All tested vehicles were manufactured in India and weighed exactly 1,241 kg during the assessment process. The comprehensive testing followed global standards with demanding frontal and side impact simulations along with child seat compatibility checks.
In the critical area of adult occupant protection, the Honda Amaze delivered outstanding results. The sedan scored an impressive 14.33 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 14.00 out of 16 points in the side impact test. This remarkable performance contributed to a near-perfect dynamic safety score of 23.81 out of 24 points.
Advanced Safety Features That Made the Difference
Honda's comprehensive safety package played a crucial role in achieving these excellent results. The tested variants were equipped with dual front airbags, side thorax airbags, curtain airbags, seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and ISOFIX child seat mounts. These features worked in harmony to provide maximum protection during collision scenarios.
The official scoring system awarded the Amaze 28.33 out of 32 points for adult safety, placing it among the safest vehicles in its category. This performance is particularly significant given the competitive landscape of the sub-4 metre sedan segment in India.
Exceptional Child Safety Performance
Child occupant protection emerged as another strong area for the Honda Amaze. The vehicle received a perfect 12 out of 12 points for child restraint system installation, demonstrating excellent compatibility with various child seat types. The dynamic performance with child dummies was equally impressive, scoring 7.81 out of 8 points for the 3-year-old dummy and a perfect 8 out of 8 points for the 18-month-old dummy.
The ISOFIX system with leg support proved particularly effective in ensuring that rear-facing child seats remained stable during crash simulations. This feature is crucial for protecting infants and toddlers, who are more vulnerable to injury in collision situations. Overall, the Honda Amaze achieved 40.81 out of 49 points for child safety under the BNCAP assessment framework.
Competitive Landscape and Market Significance
The Bharat NCAP programme follows testing procedures similar to Global NCAP and Euro NCAP, establishing rigorous safety standards for the Indian automotive market. The Honda Amaze directly competes with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire in the highly competitive sub-4 metre sedan category. Interestingly, the Dzire had also previously received 5-star ratings in BNCAP testing, indicating rising safety standards across the segment.
This achievement represents a significant step forward for automotive safety in India, demonstrating that compact sedans can deliver world-class protection without compromising on affordability or fuel efficiency. The results provide Indian consumers with reliable safety data to make informed purchasing decisions in one of the country's most popular vehicle segments.
