HSIIDC Tenders Rs 19.8 Cr Project to Widen Gurgaon Service Road
HSIIDC Tenders Rs 19.8 Cr Gurgaon Service Road Widening

The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has issued a tender for the widening and redesign of a 1.6-kilometer service road along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, connecting Shankar Chowk and Atlas Chowk. The project is estimated to cost Rs 19.8 crore, and upon award, completion is expected to take at least one year.

Current Challenges

Presently, the service road measures approximately 7 meters in width and frequently experiences congestion due to heavy office traffic, on-street parking, and ongoing commercial development. With numerous offices already located along the road and more under construction, including Atrium Place, the strain on this narrow stretch is anticipated to increase further.

Widening Plan

Under the proposed plan, the carriageway will be widened to between 11 and 14 meters, depending on land availability along different sections. Officials noted that uniform expansion is not possible due to physical constraints, particularly a 440-kV transmission line running along parts of the stretch, which cannot be relocated. “Wherever space is available, the road will be widened to the maximum feasible limit,” an HSIIDC official stated.

Additional Improvements

The project also includes strengthening the drainage network to address recurring waterlogging during the monsoon season, constructing footpaths, underground connection of overhead electric cables, and installing streetlights along the road.

Background and Stakeholder Input

This initiative follows repeated demands from industrial bodies and stakeholders in Udyog Vihar, who have highlighted deteriorating traffic conditions and inadequate infrastructure. Officials confirmed that consultations were held with these groups before finalizing the plan.

Future Transit Integration

The road upgrade is critical due to upcoming mass transit projects in the vicinity. Shankar Chowk is expected to become a major transport hub, with a proposed RRTS station and a metro station likely to be developed in the area. The NCRTC station itself will be constructed on HSIIDC land near Shankar Chowk, but the orientation of entry and exit gates has been altered after concerns about worsening congestion with three high-capacity transit stations planned nearby.

“These developments are expected to increase both vehicular and pedestrian movement, which will further strain the existing road network and cause inconvenience, which is why we are undertaking the service road upgradation,” the official added.
