The revised master plan of the Dharwad-Hubballi Urban Development Authority (DHUDA) is poised to receive government approval, marking a significant step in regional urban planning. The minister overseeing the department expressed dissatisfaction over the sluggish progress in the distribution of e-Khatas, which are digital property documents.
Master Plan Approval Process
The updated DHUDA master plan, which outlines land use and development regulations for the Dharwad-Hubballi region, has been submitted for final approval. Officials confirmed that the plan incorporates feedback from public consultations and aims to streamline urban growth. The government is expected to clear it shortly, enabling DHUDA to implement new zoning and infrastructure projects.
Minister's Concerns on e-Khata Distribution
During a review meeting, the minister voiced displeasure over the slow pace of e-Khata issuance. According to DHUDA sources, only a fraction of eligible property owners have received the digital documents, which are intended to simplify property transactions and reduce fraud. The minister directed officials to expedite the process and set a deadline for completion.
“The delay in distributing e-Khatas is unacceptable. We need to ensure that all property owners get their digital documents promptly,” the minister stated, as per an official release.
Impact on Urban Development
The approval of the master plan is expected to unlock several development projects, including new roads, residential zones, and commercial areas. DHUDA officials believe the plan will attract investment and improve living standards. Simultaneously, the push for e-Khatas aims to bring transparency to property records, reducing disputes and enhancing revenue collection for the authority.
As of now, DHUDA has issued e-Khatas for about 40% of the targeted properties, according to internal data. The minister has called for a special drive to cover the remaining properties within three months.
