IIT-BHU, FAARD Foundation Partner for Agri-Innovation in Eastern UP

In a major move to enhance agricultural innovation and rural progress, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), BHU and the Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture and Rural Development (FAARD Foundation) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday. The agreement focuses on promoting sustainable agricultural growth and livelihood security in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Key Details of the Partnership

IIT-BHU director Prof Amit Patra and FAARD Foundation president Prof Panjab Singh formalized the MoU. This five-year agreement aims to merge advanced research, digital technologies, and on-ground implementation. The collaboration seeks to benefit farmers, rural youth, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) across the region.

Creating a 'Lighthouse Region'

The partnership will work to establish Eastern Uttar Pradesh as a 'Lighthouse Region' for agricultural innovation. IIT-BHU will contribute its technical expertise and research infrastructure. FAARD Foundation will provide its extensive grassroots network and deep experience in rural development.

Leadership Perspectives

Prof Amit Patra addressed the gathering after the signing ceremony. He emphasized that this collaboration demonstrates the institute's dedication to turning research into practical impact. The goal is to empower farming communities with technology-driven solutions.

Prof Panjab Singh highlighted how the partnership will improve farmers' access to modern technologies, knowledge, and markets. He stressed that this initiative will ensure sustainable livelihoods and boost income levels for rural populations.

Intellectual Property Sharing

Both institutions agreed to share intellectual property generated through their joint projects. This approach encourages innovation and ensures that research outcomes directly benefit agricultural practices in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
