VC Honoured at 17th Agriculture Leadership Conclave
Prof Suresh Malhotra, Vice Chancellor of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University (MHU) in Karnal, was conferred the Agriculture Leadership Award 2026 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The award was presented during the 17th Agriculture Leadership Conclave held in New Delhi, where Prof Malhotra also participated as a distinguished guest.

The award recognises Prof Malhotra's pioneering research in horticulture and development of technologies that have significantly improved farmers' livelihoods while strengthening India's horticulture sector. It also acknowledges MHU's excellence in horticultural research and higher education.
The conclave, themed 'Feeding the Future', brought together policymakers, scientists, academicians and agricultural experts from across the country to deliberate on strategies for ensuring food and nutritional security. The event was attended by several Union and state ministers, along with eminent scientists and experts from India and abroad.
Presentation on Global Food Security Challenges
During the conclave, Prof Malhotra delivered a presentation on emerging challenges related to global food and nutrition security, highlighting the role of scientific innovation in addressing them. He also responded to queries from international experts on sustainable agriculture and future food systems.
Call for Adoption of Advanced Technologies
Expressing gratitude after receiving the honour, Prof Malhotra said Indian scientists continue to develop innovative technologies that have helped the country achieve food security. However, he stressed that with the growing population, ensuring access to nutritious food would remain a major challenge.
'The vision of both the Central and Haryana governments is to expand the area under horticulture cultivation. Farmers should adopt advanced technologies developed by agricultural and horticultural scientists, as these innovations will benefit not only the farming community but also the nation,' Prof Malhotra said.
