LPG Cylinder Shortage Ignites Unprecedented Rush for Induction Cooktops in Nagpur
A sudden and severe shortage of LPG cylinders in Nagpur has triggered an unprecedented consumer rush for induction cooktops across the city. Most retail outlets and online delivery platforms have reported that these electric cooking appliances are either completely sold out or running critically low on stock, creating a frenzied buying environment.
Panic Buying Sweeps Retail and Online Markets
A comprehensive check across multiple quick commerce platforms revealed induction cooktops were largely unavailable, with most listings marked as sold out and no clear timeline for restocking. Similar scenes unfolded at various electronics stores throughout Nagpur, where customers began enquiring in large numbers and, in numerous cases, were placed on waiting lists due to depleted inventories.
Retailers confirmed the surge in demand began immediately after reports emerged about significant delays in LPG cylinder availability. This prompted households to urgently seek electric cooking alternatives. Induction cooktops, viewed as an immediate and convenient substitute for gas stoves, quickly disappeared from shelves as demand spiked dramatically over the past several days.
Unprecedented Demand Patterns Emerge
Santosh Taori, a prominent electronics dealer in Nagpur, described the situation as extraordinary. "The pace at which stocks are getting exhausted is completely unprecedented," Taori stated. "Even at our stores, the inventory is depleting as we speak. We've witnessed demand surge nearly 25 times compared to normal days."
Taori emphasized this phenomenon extends beyond Nagpur's borders. "This surge is not limited to our city alone but is being witnessed across the entire country. Even the suppliers from whom we place bulk orders are experiencing exceptionally high demand. Fresh consignments are getting booked almost immediately upon arrival."
According to Taori, consumer buying behavior has fundamentally changed during this crisis. "People are coming in and purchasing one induction cooktop for immediate use and sometimes another as a backup unit. Many households are treating these purchases as essential safety measures until the LPG supply situation normalizes."
Supply Chain Strains and Customer Frustrations
Several shop owners reported receiving continuous enquiries from anxious customers but having limited remaining stock to sell. Ashok Deo, a resident of Mahal, shared his frustrating experience: "Even on major e-commerce platforms, most induction cooktops are already showing as out of stock. The few models that remain available are priced above Rs3,000 or Rs4,000, and despite premium memberships, delivery timelines are stretching beyond one week."
Deo added that on the official websites of several induction cooktop manufacturers, customers are being shown waiting periods of multiple weeks due to the sudden nationwide surge in demand.
Nationwide Implications and Future Outlook
With supply chains under significant pressure from the sudden nationwide demand, retailers cautioned it may take several days before the availability of induction cooktops stabilizes. Until then, numerous households appear to be turning to electric cooking options as a practical solution to tide over the LPG shortage crisis.
The situation highlights how localized supply disruptions can trigger nationwide consumer behavior shifts and strain retail infrastructure. As families adapt to the temporary LPG shortage, the induction cooktop market is experiencing unprecedented volatility that may have lasting implications for both consumer habits and retail strategies in the home appliance sector.
