Major Fire Engulfs Ludhiana Factory, No Casualties Reported
A significant fire erupted late Wednesday night at a factory located near the dairy complex on Hambran Road in Ludhiana. The blaze, which ignited suddenly, spread with alarming speed, consuming the entire factory within minutes. This incident has drawn attention to industrial safety in the region, highlighting the risks associated with flammable materials.
Immediate Response and Challenges
According to sources, an employee on night duty first noticed smoke and flames emanating from the unit and promptly alerted the factory owner. The owner then informed the fire brigade, leading to a swift dispatch of fire department teams to the scene. A fire officer at the location reported that vehicles were mobilized promptly after receiving the call at 11:10 PM.
However, the presence of plastic and other highly flammable materials inside the factory exacerbated the situation, causing the fire to intensify and spread rapidly. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night, managing to bring the blaze under complete control by approximately 3 AM. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as all workers evacuated the premises in time.
Extensive Firefighting Efforts
Officials noted that controlling the fire was particularly challenging due to its high intensity and the factory's large area, which facilitated the quick spread of flames. In response, the fire department called in tenders from four different fire stations, deploying more than 30 fire tenders to combat the inferno. To ensure uninterrupted operations, vehicles repeatedly returned to the spot after refilling water, demonstrating a coordinated effort to extinguish the flames.
Impact and Aftermath
The factory was engaged in large-scale manufacturing of domestic air coolers, ventilation fans, and exhaust fans. A significant quantity of finished products, raw materials, and machinery was destroyed in the incident, resulting in substantial economic losses. The fire also caused panic among residents in the surrounding area, who were alarmed by the sight of towering flames. Since the incident occurred at night, fire brigade teams benefited from reduced traffic, allowing them to reach the site without delays.
This event underscores the importance of stringent fire safety measures in industrial settings, especially those handling flammable substances. Authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the fire to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
