Maharashtra Top Industrial Destination: Shinde

Thane: Maharashtra has emerged as a favorable destination for industries in the country, with large-scale foreign investments flowing in and new projects in data centres, IT and manufacturing sectors coming up of late, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said in Thane.

Skill Development Centre Inaugurated

Shinde was addressing the inauguration of a Skill Development Centre in Wagle Estate late Thursday as part of a CSR initiative by a multinational company in collaboration with SkillSonics, accredited by the National Skill Development Corporation.

The centre houses a modern training facility spread over 8,000 square feet and has been equipped to provide industry-oriented training to ITI, diploma and engineering students, as well as electricians and technicians. The centre will provide free training to over 1,000 youth and electricians every year to enhance their employability, Shinde said.

Global Interest in Maharashtra

“Global companies are eager to invest in Maharashtra because of its excellent infrastructure, connectivity and skilled workforce. This institution will provide local youth with training and employment opportunities. There is a rising demand for technical manpower in the construction and infrastructure sector, and this facility will impart modern technical training to help these youth get faster scope of employment,” he said.

Referring to the changing landscape of the region, Shinde pointed out how Wagle Industrial Estate, which was once Asia’s leading industrial hubs, is now emerging as a major hotspot for IT, data centres and service industries, generating new employment opportunities for trained youth.

The skill development initiative is expected to significantly boost local employment and align with Maharashtra's growing industrial ecosystem. With state-of-the-art equipment and curriculum designed in consultation with industry experts, the centre aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical skills required in the job market.

Shinde emphasized that the state government is committed to creating a conducive environment for both domestic and international investors. He highlighted that Maharashtra's proactive policies and robust infrastructure have made it a preferred choice for sectors ranging from manufacturing to information technology.

The new training facility will also focus on emerging technologies such as automation, renewable energy, and digital tools, ensuring that trainees are equipped for future job roles. This aligns with the national vision of Skill India and the state's objective to become a global manufacturing and services hub.
