Mahindra Announces Buyback Option for BE 6 Batman Edition Owners
In response to significant customer backlash, Mahindra has officially introduced a full buyback option for early purchasers of the BE 6 Batman Edition. This decision follows widespread dissatisfaction expressed online after the company unexpectedly reopened bookings for what was originally marketed as an exclusive, limited-run model.
Details of the Buyback Offer
According to an official communication distributed to customers, Mahindra is offering to repurchase the BE 6 Batman Edition from those who acquired vehicles from the initial batch. The buyback option is available for a strictly limited period of 30 days, commencing from March 18. Interested owners must contact their respective dealerships directly to initiate the repurchase process. It is crucial to note that this offer is exclusively applicable to customers who purchased their vehicles from the first production run, highlighting Mahindra's attempt to address concerns over exclusivity.
Background of the Controversy
The controversy erupted earlier this month when Mahindra unexpectedly reopened bookings for the Batman Edition. A second batch, comprising 999 units, sold out in a mere 135 seconds, demonstrating continued high demand. However, this move angered existing owners who had bought the car under the impression it was a strictly limited edition, with many feeling that the reintroduction diluted the model's exclusivity and value.
History and Features of the BE 6 Batman Edition
Originally launched in August 2025, the BE 6 Batman Edition was introduced as part of a high-profile collaboration with DC Comics, drawing direct inspiration from Christopher Nolan's acclaimed The Dark Knight Trilogy. Initial production was capped at 300 units but was later expanded to 999 units. Despite this increase, the entire lot sold out rapidly, reinforcing its status as an exclusive offering at the time.
In terms of design, the special edition distinguishes itself with a striking Satin Black exterior finish, Batman-themed decals, and distinctive BE 6 x The Dark Knight badging. The SUV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and features Alchemy Gold-painted suspension components and brake calipers. Multiple Bat emblems are strategically placed across the body, consistently reinforcing the thematic connection.
Inside, the cabin continues the Batman inspiration with a dark theme accentuated by gold accents and sepia stitching. The interior boasts premium suede and leather upholstery, a gold-accented steering wheel, and a custom welcome animation. Unique elements include a Batman-themed start-up sound, a large Bat emblem on the panoramic sunroof, and a numbered plaque on the dashboard, all contributing to the vehicle's exclusive appeal.
Mechanical Specifications
Mechanically, the BE 6 Batman Edition is based on the top-spec Pack Three variant. It is powered by a substantial 79 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-claimed range of 682 kilometers on a single charge. The electric motor is mounted on the rear axle, generating an impressive 286 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. The model was launched at a starting price of Rs 27.79 lakh, ex-showroom, positioning it as a premium offering in the electric vehicle market.
This buyback initiative underscores Mahindra's responsiveness to customer feedback while navigating the challenges of balancing production decisions with brand exclusivity in the competitive automotive sector.
