Maruti Suzuki Unveils Aggressive Electric Vehicle Roadmap for 2031
Maruti Suzuki India has announced ambitious plans to significantly expand its electric vehicle portfolio, with the introduction of four new electric models by 2031. This strategic move was revealed by senior executive Partho Banerjee during a recent event in Hyderabad, as reported by PTI.
Strong Market Response and Immediate Milestones
At the Hyderabad event, Maruti Suzuki demonstrated strong customer acceptance by delivering an impressive 108 units of the Maruti Suzuki e VITARA to customers in a single day. The company highlighted that this achievement reflects growing consumer confidence as it intensifies its efforts to promote cleaner mobility solutions across India.
Partho Banerjee emphasized that the brand's mid-term strategy involves expanding its electric portfolio across multiple vehicle segments. This indicates a broader and more comprehensive presence in the electric vehicle space in the coming years, moving beyond current offerings to capture diverse market segments.
Long-Term Vision and Market Leadership Goals
Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki has set a clear target to become the market leader in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment by 2031. Banerjee noted that the company will shape its EV strategy based on market response and evolving consumer demand, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to changing conditions.
On the pricing front, the company hinted at potential price increases due to rising commodity costs. While the exact magnitude of the hike has not been announced, Banerjee clarified that global factors, including the ongoing situation in West Asia, have not yet been fully assessed in terms of their impact on pricing decisions.
Production Success and Export Achievements
The e VITARA, which is produced exclusively at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, has already achieved significant milestones. The model has crossed 25,000 units in exports, reaching 44 countries with plans to target over 100 global markets. In the fiscal year 2026 alone, Maruti Suzuki exported close to 4.5 lakh vehicles, demonstrating strong international demand for its products.
Infrastructure Development for EV Expansion
To support its aggressive electric vehicle expansion plans, Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to establish over one lakh public charging points across India by 2030. The company has already made substantial progress in this area, having set up more than 2,000 dedicated charging points to date.
This comprehensive approach combining new vehicle launches, infrastructure development, and market leadership goals positions Maruti Suzuki as a key player in India's transition to electric mobility.
