LPG Cylinder Supply in Madhya Pradesh Plummets 25% Amid Global Fuel Chain Disruptions
LPG cylinder dispatches across Madhya Pradesh witnessed a sharp decline of about 25 percent on Thursday compared to average daily supply levels. This significant drop occurred as oil marketing companies implemented delivery curtailments to commercial establishments, responding to disruptions in the global fuel supply chain triggered by recent geopolitical tensions.
Supply Adjustments and Panic Bookings Strain Distribution Systems
State officials have confirmed that Madhya Pradesh maintains adequate fuel stocks. However, temporary supply adjustments combined with panic-driven bookings from consumers have placed considerable pressure on the distribution infrastructure. According to data from oil companies, approximately 2.75 lakh LPG cylinders were dispatched to consumers across MP on March 9, aligning with normal daily supply figures. In contrast, Thursday's dispatches experienced a marked reduction as commercial supplies to sectors including hotels and restaurants were tightened.
Technical Issues Emerge from Surge in Demand
The sudden and unexpected surge in LPG bookings led to widespread technical complications across the booking network. Numerous distributors reported server slowdowns and temporary system crashes in various parts of the state. This spike in demand compelled several agencies to temporarily revert to manual booking systems to manage incoming orders and ensure the continuity of supply chains.
Official Assurance on Fuel Availability and Logistics
An anonymous official from an oil marketing company provided insights into the situation, emphasizing that the state currently possesses sufficient fuel stocks and that all supply routes remain fully operational. "We have adequate supplies and stocks of fuel in MP and have also assured the state government about availability. The state is centrally located and has access to supply routes from both the eastern and western coasts, which gives us a logistical advantage," the official stated.
The official further clarified that the strain on booking systems was primarily attributable to panic-induced consumer demand rather than an actual shortage of LPG. "Servers are reporting unusually heavy loads due to panic booking by consumers," the official added, highlighting the psychological impact of global events on local consumption patterns.
Madhya Pradesh's LPG Consumer Base and Infrastructure
Madhya Pradesh serves a substantial LPG consumer base exceeding 1.76 crore households and businesses. The distribution is managed by three major oil marketing companies: Indian Oil Corporation caters to approximately 84.26 lakh consumers, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) serves around 44.15 lakh, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) supplies to nearly 48.46 lakh consumers. Supporting this network are 11 operational LPG bottling plants across the state, including five operated by Indian Oil, three by Bharat Petroleum, and three by HP, which collectively supply cylinders to distributors throughout Madhya Pradesh.
