Nagpur Factory Blast Death Toll Climbs to 22 as Two More Workers Succumb to Severe Burns
The tragic death toll from the devastating explosion at the SBL Energy Ltd factory in Raulgaon, Kalmeshwar, Nagpur district, has now risen to 22. This increase follows the heartbreaking deaths of two more injured workers over the weekend, both of whom succumbed to severe burn injuries sustained in the blast.
Weekend Deaths Add to the Mounting Tragedy
Amrapali Kalsarpe, aged 36, passed away around 11 PM on Saturday while undergoing intensive medical treatment. She had suffered extensive 55% burns in the catastrophic explosion and had undergone multiple surgeries. Medical professionals reported that she had remained on ventilator support continuously since the incident occurred.
Another worker, Roshani Umathe, aged 32, died on Sunday. She had sustained even more severe injuries, with 75% burns across her body along with a fracture in her left forearm. These latest fatalities have further deepened the sorrow surrounding this industrial disaster.
Families Devastated by the Losses
The death of Amrapali Kalsarpe has particularly devastated her family, as she leaves behind two young children—a 10-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter. Her husband had passed away years earlier, and she had secured the factory job through her brother-in-law's assistance. She was a resident of Raulgaon, the very community where the factory explosion occurred.
These weekend deaths follow another tragic loss earlier last week when Durga Keshav Sevatkar, aged 42, died while receiving treatment for nearly 60% burn injuries. With four workers now having died within a single week due to their injuries, the factory blast continues to claim lives long after the initial explosion.
Medical Situation Remains Critical for Survivors
Currently, 14 women remain under intensive medical care at the Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI). Doctors treating the victims have reported that the injured workers suffered burn injuries ranging between 30% and 70% in severity.
Medical teams continue to maintain close monitoring of all patients as they work diligently to stabilize their conditions. The powerful explosion that rocked the factory on March 1 initially killed 17 workers immediately at the scene. Another injured worker was declared brought dead when transported to the hospital the following day.
Before the most recent weekend deaths, Ranjana Uttam Ghagre, aged 34, had succumbed to her injuries last Monday after battling for survival for nearly 24 hours. The factory explosion has now resulted in one of the most severe industrial accidents in the region's recent history, with the death toll continuing to rise as critically injured workers fight for their lives.
