Dibrugarh: In a significant advancement for India's renewable energy sector, NHPC Limited has officially declared the successful commercial operation of the third unit at the monumental 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP). This landmark development, situated along the strategic Arunachal Pradesh-Assam border, represents a crucial stride forward in the nation's ambitious clean energy agenda and energy security framework.

Unit 1 Begins Commercial Operations, Adding 250 MW to National Grid

The newly commissioned unit, designated as Unit 1 with a robust capacity of 250 MW, commenced full commercial operations on Friday, effectively injecting an additional 250 MW of clean, sustainable hydropower into the National Grid. This achievement follows a comprehensive trial run conducted on February 27, which served as a critical testing phase and essential precursor to the unit's official commercial launch.

With this latest commissioning, the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project has now reached a cumulative operational capacity of 750 MW, derived from three operational units. The project's complete design envisions a total capacity of 2000 MW, which will be generated through eight individual units, each rated at 250 MW capacity. Widely recognized as a crown jewel within India's hydropower infrastructure, the SLHEP is projected to play a transformative role in enhancing grid stabilization, ensuring reliable peak power supply, and facilitating the seamless integration of variable renewable energy sources into the national power network.
