Noida NSEZ Phase 2 Set for Major Power Infrastructure Upgrade
The Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) Phase 2, a critical hub serving approximately 4,000 industrial consumers and surrounding areas, is poised for a significant enhancement in its electrical infrastructure. Authorities have announced the construction of an additional 33/11 kV substation, a project valued at Rs 12 crore, with completion targeted for May. This initiative aims to address persistent power reliability issues that have plagued the zone during high-demand periods.
Doubling Capacity to Combat Outages
Currently, the NSEZ relies on a single 33/11 kV substation with a maximum capacity of 20 MVA. Officials have highlighted that this existing setup often proves insufficient during peak summer months, leading to frequent power disruptions that hinder industrial operations. The new substation will be equipped with two 10 MVA transformers, effectively doubling the available capacity to 40 MVA. This upgrade is expected to provide a more stable and uninterrupted power supply, crucial for the zone's economic activities.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, chief engineer of the Noida power department under PVVNL, emphasized the urgency of this project. "The existing infrastructure struggles to meet peak requirements, especially in summer when demand spikes. The new substation is designed to ensure a reliable power supply during these high-demand periods, benefiting all consumers in NSEZ Phase 2," he stated. Jain added that the focus is on minimizing outages and supporting the industrial growth in the region.
Broader Power Expansion in Noida Region
In parallel with the NSEZ upgrade, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is undertaking a comprehensive expansion of its power infrastructure. YEIDA plans to develop a total capacity of around 1,000 MVA to cater to future needs. Already, three 220 kV substations in sectors 18, 24, and 32 are operational, providing a robust foundation. Additional substations in sectors 10 and 28 are currently under construction, further strengthening the grid.
Jain noted that these efforts are part of a strategic vision to preemptively address growing power demands. "These facilities are being developed to meet future power requirements in the YEIDA area, ensuring that industrial and residential growth is not hampered by infrastructure limitations," he explained. This dual approach—targeted upgrades in NSEZ and broader expansions in YEIDA—underscores Noida's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment with reliable utilities.
The Rs 12 crore investment in the NSEZ substation reflects a proactive step towards enhancing operational efficiency and reducing downtime for industries. As Noida continues to attract businesses and investments, such infrastructure improvements are vital for sustaining economic momentum and improving the quality of life for residents and workers alike.
