Odisha Chief Minister Unveils Massive Industrial Investment Drive

In a landmark development for the state's economy, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday unveiled a comprehensive portfolio of 36 industrial projects with a staggering total investment of Rs 40,811 crore. This ambitious initiative includes the inauguration of 11 projects and the laying of foundation stones for 25 others, collectively expected to generate approximately 59,050 new employment opportunities across the state.

Wide-Ranging Sectoral Impact and District Distribution

The projects are strategically spread across multiple districts of Odisha and encompass a diverse array of key sectors. These include green energy equipment manufacturing, metals and downstream industries, textiles and apparel, plastics, tourism infrastructure, agriculture and food processing, defence manufacturing, IT and ITES services, automobile components, and cement production. This broad sectoral coverage underscores the state's commitment to balanced industrial development.

Adani Group Leads with Major Foundation Stone Ceremonies

A significant portion of the investment momentum comes from the Adani Group, which laid foundation stones for three major projects with a combined outlay exceeding Rs 33,000 crore. The flagship project is a Rs 30,181-crore thermal power plant near Cuttack, complemented by an Rs 800-crore data centre at Info Valley and an Rs 2,100-crore cement manufacturing unit in Cuttack.

Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ, emphasized the strategic importance of these investments, stating, "These projects are a statement of belief that Odisha is not on the cusp of its moment, but already in it. The next chapter of India’s industrial rise will be written here, by its people."

Textile Sector Receives Substantial Boost

Among the 34 projects unveiled by Chief Minister Majhi during a public meeting at Bhuinpur in Khurda district, two major textile initiatives stand out:

  • The foundation stone was laid for a Page Industries textile manufacturing unit at Chhatabar, involving an investment of approximately Rs 258 crore with an employment potential of 3,500 jobs.
  • Another major textile manufacturing facility worth around Rs 750 crore was inaugurated at Ramdaspur in Cuttack district, expected to create about 5,850 jobs.

Chief Minister's Vision for a Prosperous Odisha

Addressing the gathering at Bhuinpur, Chief Minister Majhi declared that Odisha has transitioned from a state of potential to one experiencing tangible prosperity. He described the current developments as part of a "second industrial revolution" underway in the state and a significant chapter in the journey towards a 'Samruddha Odisha' (Prosperous Odisha).

"Within the next few years, Odisha will emerge as a prosperous state. Over the past 18-20 months, the government had laid foundation stones and inaugurated 109 projects worth around Rs 2.5 lakh crore, creating 1.76 lakh jobs. A clear shift has been seen in Odisha’s industrial sector, with momentum picking up since January 2025," Majhi stated.

He further emphasized that the decade leading up to 2036 would be a decade of resolve, with priority given to economic growth alongside 'Odia Asmita' (Odia pride). The Chief Minister highlighted that these investments would enable the manufacture of goods previously imported, thereby strengthening industrial self-reliance and contributing to the national goal of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

Substantial Infrastructure Allocation and Global Integration

Majhi revealed that the state budget has allocated over Rs 72,000 crore for infrastructure development, which constitutes about 6.5% of Odisha's GDP. This substantial investment is aimed at boosting overall development and employment generation. He asserted that stronger infrastructure and a robust economy would integrate Odisha more closely with the global economic landscape.

Exhibition and Round-Table Engagement with Industrialists

Following the public program, the Chief Minister visited an exhibition showcasing industrial projects from prominent companies including:
