Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared on Tuesday that a genuine industrial revolution has commenced in the state under the BJP government, while criticizing the previous BJD regime for missing multiple opportunities due to lack of determination.
New Leadership, New Vision for Odisha
Addressing the 'Samruddha Odisha 2036 Conclave' organized by the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI), Majhi emphasized that while the previous government provided stability, true governance extends beyond mere event management. The Chief Minister outlined an ambitious economic roadmap targeting nearly five-fold growth over the next decade.
"Odisha's economy currently stands at $120 billion, and we aim to achieve $500 billion by 2036," Majhi announced during his keynote address. He highlighted that the government's strategy focuses on three critical pillars: infrastructure development, industrial expansion, and skill enhancement programs.
Massive Investments and Job Creation
The state government has already secured investment commitments worth Rs 2 lakh crore, which will establish the foundation for 84 new industries and generate approximately 1.64 lakh employment opportunities for Odisha's residents.
Major corporate giants including Vedanta Group, Adani, JSW, Indian Oil, and Zoho Group have significant projects in the pipeline. The investment portfolio also includes substantial allocations for textiles and green energy sectors, positioning Odisha as a future renewable energy hub.
Infrastructure and Technological Transformation
Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the coordinated efforts between central and state governments to strengthen Odisha's infrastructure network. Comprehensive development in roads, railways, ports, and airports is currently underway to support industrial growth.
In a significant announcement, Majhi revealed plans to transform Bhubaneswar into a major technology hub. "Fintech and Insurtech companies are already establishing operations here, along with two semiconductor units and several major IT corporations," he stated.
The proposed Capital Region Ring Road will accelerate the expansion of the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar twin city area, ultimately positioning Bhubaneswar as eastern India's next mega tech city.
Industry and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, who also spoke at the event, expressed confidence that the government has quickly become popular among the people. "Within just one year, we have unlocked Odisha's industrial potential. Our youth workforce and industrial growth are driving the state toward unprecedented prosperity," Swain affirmed.
The event concluded with Chief Minister Majhi unveiling the 'Samruddha Odisha 2036' booklet prepared by UCCI, symbolizing the state's commitment to achieving its ambitious economic targets through collaborative efforts between government and industry.
