Porsche 911 GT4 R Revealed with Powerful 4.0-Litre Boxer Engine

Porsche has officially unveiled the 911 GT4 R, a new race car designed for customer motorsport, ahead of its anticipated debut in 2027. The vehicle is powered by a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine that delivers 550 horsepower, making it one of the most potent GT4-class cars in the market.

Key Specifications and Performance

The 911 GT4 R is built on the platform of the road-going 911 GT3 but heavily modified for racing. It features a sequential six-speed gearbox, weight reduction measures, and a comprehensive aerodynamic package including a large rear wing and front splitter. The car is expected to compete in series such as the GT4 European Series and other global championships.

According to Porsche Motorsport, the engine is derived from the 911 GT3 Cup car but tuned for higher output and reliability. The car also includes a new exhaust system and upgraded cooling to withstand the rigors of endurance racing.

Advanced Aerodynamics and Chassis

The GT4 R features a bespoke chassis with adjustable suspension, racing brakes, and lightweight body panels. The aerodynamics have been optimized for downforce and stability, with a focus on high-speed cornering. Porsche claims the car can achieve a top speed of over 310 km/h.

“The 911 GT4 R sets a new benchmark in the GT4 category,” said a Porsche spokesperson. “It combines our racing heritage with cutting-edge technology to provide customer teams with a competitive and reliable machine.”

Availability and Pricing

Porsche will begin deliveries of the 911 GT4 R in early 2027, with a base price of approximately €250,000 (around ₹2.2 crore). The car is available for order now, with production limited to meet demand. Customer teams can also opt for a racing package that includes data logging and telemetry systems.

The unveiling comes as Porsche expands its customer racing program, aiming to attract more privateer teams to its GT lineup. The 911 GT4 R is expected to replace the current 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport in some series.
