Prayagraj LPG Supply Crunch Enters Third Week, Officials Urge Consumer Patience
Prayagraj continues to grapple with a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply crunch that has now persisted for three consecutive weeks, though authorities report signs of easing as panic-driven refill bookings decline. Despite distributors claiming they are working through backlogs with limited refill supplies, frequent queues at LPG agencies remain a visible issue across the city.
Officials Advise Against Panic Booking, Suggest Alternatives
In response to the ongoing situation, consumers have been strongly advised to avoid panic booking and instead wait patiently for scheduled home delivery. Authorities are also encouraging residents to consider alternative energy sources, particularly piped natural gas, to help ease the pressure on the LPG distribution system.
"The situation remains normal, with no complete shortage at distributor points," officials stated, while acknowledging the supply constraints. They emphasized that panic behavior only exacerbates distribution challenges.
Distributors Report Reduced But Persistent Backlogs
According to LPG distributors, backlogs have reduced significantly but still vary between four and eight days depending on the company and specific agency. A distributor operating from Stanley Road described the current customer behavior pattern: "Customers are visiting agencies just one day after making bookings and demanding immediate delivery."
Most customers now approach agencies primarily to inquire about expected delivery timelines rather than demanding instant service, indicating some improvement in public understanding of the supply constraints.
Customer Impatience Remains Key Challenge
Distributors and agency staff identify customer impatience as their primary operational challenge. "Booking pressure has come down, but customers are unwilling to wait for scheduled home delivery and arrive at the agency as soon as their booking is confirmed," explained an agency owner.
The root of the delivery delays lies in supply limitations. "We are unable to deliver refills promptly as we are receiving only about 50-60% of our normal quota," the agency owner revealed. Customers frequently cite urgent household needs when seeking early delivery, including claims that food has not been cooked for multiple days due to cylinder shortages.
Authorities Crack Down on Hoarding and Black Marketing
To address the supply issues comprehensively, authorities are conducting regular raids and inspections targeting hoarding and black marketing activities. These enforcement measures aim to ensure fair distribution of available LPG supplies and prevent exploitation of the current shortage.
The combination of supply constraints, distribution challenges, and consumer behavior has created a complex situation that requires coordinated response from all stakeholders involved in the LPG supply chain.
