Prayagraj Railway Division Posts Impressive Financial and Operational Results for 2025-26
The Prayagraj division of North Central Railways has delivered an outstanding performance during the financial year 2025-26, achieving remarkable milestones across revenue generation, freight operations, and passenger services. According to official data released by divisional railway manager Rajneesh Agrawal, the division recorded total revenue of Rs 2,753 crore, demonstrating strong financial health and operational efficiency.
Freight Operations Show Substantial Growth
Freight operations emerged as a significant growth driver for the division. The total freight loading reached 7.945 million tonnes, representing a substantial 6.9% increase compared to previous periods. This impressive volume translated into freight earnings of Rs 843.63 crore, which marks a 3.9% improvement over previous records. The division also handled unloading operations of 47.83 million tonnes, reflecting a healthy 7.39% rise in this crucial operational metric.
Enhanced Train Operations and Punctuality Improvements
The division managed comprehensive train operations throughout the year, running a total of 1,46,832 trains. This included 13,779 train-on-demand services that provided flexible transportation solutions. Operational efficiency saw notable improvements with freight train speeds increasing by 7.1% and 12.9% when including yard movement activities.
Passenger services witnessed significant punctuality enhancements, with coaching train punctuality improving to 80.0% from the previous 74.2%. The division achieved its best single-day performance at an impressive 98.85% punctuality rate. During the busy Magh Mela period, the division efficiently managed passenger rush by operating 804 special trains alongside 7,490 regular train services.
Infrastructure Development and Safety Enhancements
Infrastructure development remained a primary focus area, with substantial progress recorded across multiple projects. The division completed construction of 13 foot overbridges, seven road overbridges, and four road underbridges to improve connectivity and passenger movement. Eight stations were upgraded as part of the Amrit Bharat station development program, enhancing passenger facilities and amenities.
Safety received paramount attention with the commissioning of the Kavach 4.0 safety system over 190 route kilometers in the Prayagraj-Kanpur section. Additional safety measures included the closure of nine level crossing gates to improve traffic flow and safety, along with the installation of approximately 950 CCTV cameras across various stations for enhanced surveillance and security.
Passenger Amenities and Environmental Initiatives
Passenger amenities saw substantial expansion with the addition of 35 catering stalls, 25 multipurpose stalls, 16 fruit and juice bars, and contracts for 17 water vending machines. These improvements supported the transportation of approximately 7.40 crore passengers during the financial year.
Environmental sustainability initiatives gained momentum with solar capacity increasing to 8.3 MWp, generating annual savings of Rs 4.16 crore while significantly reducing carbon emissions. The division also recorded scrap sales worth Rs 69.51 crore, contributing to resource optimization and revenue generation.
Connectivity Enhancements and Service Expansions
Connectivity improvements formed a crucial part of the division's strategy, with the introduction of new train services, additional stoppages, and coach expansions. These measures were designed to enhance regional connectivity and provide better transportation options for passengers across the division's operational network.
The comprehensive performance report highlights the Prayagraj division's commitment to operational excellence, passenger satisfaction, and sustainable development, positioning it as a key contributor to North Central Railways' overall success in the 2025-26 financial year.
